Unshakable joy

Who wants to weep while the world rejoices? It is a difficult thought to embrace.
So much of the world around us is built on the pursuit of instant gratification, living in the moment,
chasing whatever feels good, often without concern for the consequences. The world offers distractions,
temporary pleasures, and false assurances, but what the world offers cannot sustain us.
If we live “in the world”, we can forget that our joy comes from what Jesus did, dying on the cross for
us, not from the fleeting promises of the world.

Jesus challenges us to lift our eyes beyond what is immediate. Our sorrow, our struggles, and our
moments of uncertainty are not the end. If we trust in His promise, if we allow ourselves to act
courageously out of our love for God, then we will come to know a joy that surpasses all
understanding. (The Living Word. Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra & Goulburn)
